What is a Tunit?

A Tunit module is an interactive computer which, through extensive research and development, exploits the full potential of modern diesel engines. Individual programming and re-mapping of the vehicle injection signals enables this simple-to-fit device to increase Power by up to 25% and Torque by up to 35%. This extra power is delivered in a smooth progressive way which improves the drive as well as overall performance. Torque (pulling power) is delivered lower down and lasts much longer throughout the rpm range, making the Tunit ideal for any number of applications including towing, carrying heavy loads or just a great drive. Being fitted externally to your vehicle’s engine control unit (ECU), the Tunit is readily transferable to other vehicles allowing you to tune your next vehicle cost effectively.

How does it work?

The Tunit works by the careful modification of the interplay between engine parameters, altering fuel and air characteristics to create smooth power gains. Accelerator, air mass and load readings are accurately used by the Tunit to calculate and deliver the alterations to the vehicle’s own signals with digital precision and speed. More power is delivered throughout the rpm range, but more importantly, it’s delivered lower down by innovative re-mapping of the engine management system. This produces progressive power gainwithout sudden surges or drop-offs. Turbo boost is not directly altered, so there is no strain on engine components. The Tunit is truly unique in that it can be individually tuned to each and every vehicle. This is a distinct advantage as each vehicle is different, with its own characteristics. Two vehicles of the same make and model, manufactured on the same day will perform differently. The Tunit compensates for this with a simple manual djustment allowing optimum performance for all vehicles - optimum performancealso means optimum fuel economy. The Tunit is designed to increase the engine performance well within set tolerances, thus protecting your engine.

What if I’m not happy with my purchase?

At Dieselchips.com.au we offer a 30 day money back guarantee on each Tunit module – in the unlikely event you are unhappy with your purchase simply return it to us for a refund less any freight costs. Obviously we expect that the Tunit module to be as new condition when it is returned.

How easy is installation?

Common Rail applications (Tunit V-CR models) are Plug & Play – we supply easy to follow instructions with each Tunit. Fitting on these models takes 10-15 minutes. Tunit V-VP models (Variable Pump models) require a more comprehensive 30-40 minute wire in job – this can be done by one of authorised installers or any qualified auto electrician.

Tunit Features

Tunit posseses many advantageous features not seen in other tuning solutions such as chips, eprom serial reprogramming (flashing) or other types of fixed map devices. It is interchangeable between vehicles, able to be upgraded and part exchanged for other types of Tunit. External to the ECU (retro-fitted) means no interference with the original manufacturers engine equipment & built in safeguards.
Its option to adjust power and performance provides easy manual adjustment for the novice or finer electronic alterations for the more dedicated tuner. Tunit is backed up by an effective after sales service, part exchange program and five year warranty.

Will a Tunit module improve my fuel economy?

Although we primarily promote Tunit modules as an effective means of improving the Power & Torque of diesel vehicles the unit can also reduce fuel costs for a variety of cars, 4x4s, SUV, commercial, trucks, vans, agriculture and even marine applications. On average we expect an 7-10% saving on most vehicles however this depends on your driving style & vehicle application.

Are Tunit’s adjustable?

Yes, on most models there is a 10 setting dial. When you receive your module it will be set at 5. We recommend leaving it at that setting for a while before adjusting it. Setting 0 turns the unit off … 9 is at the other extreme. Most modules can also be laptop tuned – either by one of our authorised tuning dealers or by returning the unit to us. Tuning on average costs $60 + GST.

Will the Tunit Module void my warranty?

Firstly a Tunit module is fitted downstream of the ECU keeping in tact the many safeguards built into each vehicle’s computer system by the manfacturer. The module cannot override these safeguards. Secondly the Tunit module is not detectable & in most applications can be unplugged when you put your vehicle in for service or repair. Vehicle manufacturers cannot legally invalidate your vehicle’s warranty because aftermarket parts have been fitted – they have to prove that such a part has caused a problem for which you are claiming warranty.
